Ajay De


De studied art at the Kolkata Government College of Arts and Crafts. Thereafter, he moved on to Mumbai to complete his post-graduation from the Sir J J School of Art. De began his career rather unconventionally, eschewing color and working on charcoal to convey his experiences on to canvas. His works are easily identified by his trademark use of charcoal, interspersed with red or blue. He has participated in several solo shows in London 2008, Tokyo, 2008, Singapore, 2007, Palo Alto, 2006, and New York, 2003, as well as all over India. His works are in important museum and private collections, including his Mother Theresa series that is in the Vatican Museum. The artist lives and works in Mumbai.
