Shibu Natesan earned his BFA from College of Fine Arts, Trivandrum, 1987, and his MFA from MS University, Baroda, 1991. From 1996-97 he was the Artist in Residence at Rijksakademie Van Beeldende Kunsten, Amsterdam. Missing – a suite of paintings realised at the residency – is representative of the change that occurred during the time. With this body of work the artist embraced photorealism. The simulations resembled the original to a startling degree and prompted readings, which were contrary to what was intended, thus displacing the meaning without significantly altering the appearance. His solo exhibitions include Each One Teach One, Jack Shainman Gallery, New York, 2007; Vision Unlimited, Grosvenor Gallery, London, 2006; Existence of Instinct at Sakshi Gallery, Mumbai, 2005 and two solos at Gallerie Nanky De Vreez, Amsterdam, 2002 and 1997. Exhibitions with Art Musings, Mumbai include a two-artist show in 2003 and Alchemy in 2005. Group Exhibitions with Art Musings include The Gallery Collection, 2016; Art on Sunday, 2009; Alchemy, 2005; Small Format works, 2003. The artist lives and works in London and Trivandrum
