Laxma Goud is a painter, printmaker, and draughtsman. He works in a variety of mediums including etching, gouache, pastel, sculpture, and glass painting. He is best known for his early drawings that depict eroticism in a rural context, and also for the originality and quality of his etchings and aquatints. He studied painting at the Government College of Fine Arts and Architecture, Hyderabad followed by a course in printmaking at MSU, Baroda. Goud’s works are interpretations of childhood memories of rural and tribal vivacity through an urban grid in which surreal, libidinal tones mingle with fantasy and poetry. By the 1970s Goud began to explore aquatint in his etchings and also more intensely sexual themes. But by the 1980s the artist seemed to return to more traditional roots, exploring various craft forms such as terracotta and reverse glass painting in a more subdued and decorative style.
